Mdantsane guitarist Lulama Gaulana and his ensemble are set to blow the socks off jazz lovers as they say goodbye to local singer Pinise Saul.
The Mdantsane Hotel will come alive with music on Saturday as the guitar whiz shares the stage with his band in a send-off gig for Saul, one of Mdantsane’s legendary jazz singers, who is now a UK resident.
Saul, 68, has been instrumental in organising a number of concerts for South African musicians based in England, and is celebrated by jazz music lovers in Mdantsane.
She first went to London in 1975 as a member of Ipi Ntombi. While there, she and other South African musicians organised concerts to raise funds for the then-banned ANC. She has recorded six albums with Township Express and South African Gospel Singers.
