SA musicians have opened their hearts and donated their time to raise funds for the victims of the January earthquake that devastated the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.
The public can look forward to seeing some of today’s most cutting-edge acts sharing a stage with a selection of the familiar faces and voices who have shaped the local music scene over the years. While drawn from a cross-section of music genres and styles, these artists are united in their desire to help, in whatever small way possible, the destitute, injured, hungry and desperate citizens of Haiti.
The artists who have already been confirmed to perform at the M.A.D. 4 Haiti concert are: Emmanuel Castis, Proverb, Natalie Chapman and Peter Hoven, Walt, Merseystate, the Rainbow Tenors, Josie Field, Bongani (94.7), Brian Temba, PJ Powers, Auriol Hays, Laurie Levine, Tokyo Groove, Alter Irving, André Schwartz, Evolver One, Concord Nkabinde, Melanie Lowe, Tim Parr and Kathy Raven, Lionel Bastos, Liesl Graham, Holly and the Woods, Little Sister, Tasha Baxter, Tresor Riziky, Denim and Cutting Jade.
Keeping this dynamite line-up on its toes will be MCs Bevan Cullinan (aka Gary the Tooth Fairy), Joey Rasdien, Samm Marshall, Emmanuel Castis and Doug Anderson. Radio presenter Anderson, joined by Bastos and Madelaine Steyn are the driving forces behind the concert, after Anderson posted a Facebook status update about wanting to do a concert after the horror in Haiti.
The momentum keeps moving forward and so far, artists such as Anton Goosen, Tim Parr, Wendy Oldfield and Niki Smart – an expatriate South African singer now living in the USA – have donated songs that can be downloaded by the public at: http://rhythmmusicstore.com/music/6223/M.A.D-4-Haiti/M.A.D-4-Haiti.
The concert takes place at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena from 12 noon to 4pm on Sunday, 21 March (the Monday is a public holiday). Be there in person to witness one of the most exciting charity concerts the country has seen.
Musicians, companies and individuals have come to the party and have generously sponsored goods, services and their time to make a difference. All proceeds from ticket sales will be paid into a trust administered by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants SA (ACCA SA), and will go towards disaster relief in Haiti.
So get down to Carnival City on the 21st and rock the Big Top for Haiti! Tickets are priced at between R100 and R150 at Computicket, and you can also join the Facebook fan page – M.A.D. 4 Haiti – for updates. For more information, check out the website: http://www.mad4haiti.com
