Musa Manzini's newest release, ‘My Bass' epitomises soulful smooth jazz. His musical style is truly unique and the bass line on the entire album is fantastic.

With songs like, Just like Cape Town, Noluthando, Tembani, and Talk to Me, jazz fanatics will praise Manzini for this release. As I listened to Blue Bass, it became obvious that a few of the tracks have house beats mixed with jazz which gives these songs a crossover feel. Antonio Lyons, popularly known for his poetry, takes the title track Blue Bass to another level by contributing fluid verse. It sounds like poetry in motion. Nice one!

Later, Manzini tries his hands at different genres such as R&B. It seems to work because this album caters for fans of all kinds of music. “Eyabahlonishwa” does not sound like anything I've ever heard before and I salute its uniqueness. Other listenable tunes are African union, Latin love, Sebenza Always and Power of love .

Knowing how technically demanding jazz is, Manzini deserves a round of applause! Packed with fifteen tunes, this is one release you shouldn't miss out on.

Regardless of my own taste, this project is laid out in an impressive way and on top of that, everyone can easily vibe along with the music. Either happy or sad, “My Bass”, will do it for you!

The sound quality is in line with many other locally produced projects. Bearing in mind that there is a limited market for this genre, this album will be received well by those who appreciate good music.
