Prime Circle’s fourth studio album Jekyll & Hyde has hit gold status.
Selling more than 20,000 units within the first two weeks of release once again cements the Joburg-based group’s status as one of the country’s leading rock outfits.
This benchmark achievement follows on from Jekyll & Hyde claiming the number one spot on the Musica charts in its first week of release.
In reacting to the news of their latest gold release, Prime Circle’s frontman Ross Learmonth again paid tribute to the band’s supporters.
“We’ve been in this business for close on ten years and it’s because of the people who buy our music that we are able to keep doing what we love best – and that is making music,” Learmonth says.
Said Kevin Grenfell of EMI Music South Africa, “We’re very proud of Prime Circle’s achievement in a tough economic market. It says a great deal about the quality of the music and the great career that the band has built over the years that they are able to achieve gold status in the space of 11 days.”
It’s no surprise that Jekyll & Hyde has reached gold status in such a short space of time: “Breathing” is heavily impacting at radio, currently holding the number one position on the 94.7 Highveld Stereo Top 40 and Top 15 on 5FM’s Top 40. Adding fuel to the firestorm is “Never Gonna Bring Us Down” – a stomping rock tune that is on the charts at TUKS FM and other stations.
Jekyll & Hyde was recorded by Prime Circle with Theo Crous and features songwriting by all members of the band. It was mixed by Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin; Aerosmith) and mastered by George Marino, Senior Mastering Engineer at Sterling Sound, New York (Guns ‘N Roses; Ozzy Osbourne).
Prime Circle is Ross Learmonth, Dirk Bisschoff, Marco Gomes, Dale Schnettler and Neil Breytenbach.
