MTN SAMA Record of the Year –your  vote decides who wins the award for the biggest song of the year!

Another year has flown by, another list of great songs surfing the South African airwaves.  As we count down the days to this year’s 16th Annual MTN South African Music Awards, we acknowledge these big songs that took over the airwaves and got millions of fans dancing and moving over the last year.  These are the nominees in the ‘MTN Record of the Year’ category, and the best thing about them is that the winner gets chosen by the most critical judge of all, you, the fan!  This is democracy in action and your opportunity and you decide the biggest song of the year – now get voting for the tune that kept you going over the last year.

Twenty songs have been shortlisted by the MTN South African Music Awards judges – these are the finalists in this category.  The selection process involved judging the songs according to a number of criteria that take into account airplay, and research and input from the judges and record companies.  As with all things South African, the results truly represent our diverse and thriving musical landscape. 

They are the ones that ripped up the clubs, courtesy of Oskido, Goldfish, DJ Cleo, Black Coffee featuring Zakes Bantwini, Rhythmic Elements and Culoe De Song featuring Busi Mhlongo, rock anthems from Prime Circle and The Parlotones, and cutting edge pop and hip hop, from the likes of Big Nuz featuring Tira, HHP, Malaika, Loyiso, Thandiswa featuring Hugh Masekela, Themba Seete, Master Jam (with RJ Benjamin), Liquideep, Jesse Clegg, Winnie Khumalo, Nutty Nys (with Abe Molamu) and Zuluboy.

The ‘MTN Record of the Year’ is the only category at the MTN SAMAs where the public gets to vote directly to determine the winner on the night. Fans have a limit of ten (10) votes each, so take advantage of this and use your 10 votes as each vote counts and could make the crucial difference on who walks away with the SAMA as the winner!
