Hip-hop superstar JR, jazz maestro Mpumi Dhlamini, SAMA award winning Afro-soul sensation Siphokazi, and Afro-pop phenomenon Theo Kgosinkwe have collaborated to create a new song titled ‘closer’, courtesy of Hennessy Cognac.
Renowned DJ, Oskido and his Brother Of Peace (BOP) partner Bruce Sibitlo co-produced the song, eyeing predominantly, a crossover sound that promotes the Hennessy brand.
Running for approximately 4 minutes, the track collects the cream from all the musoes, having as its main strength, a jazzy fusion of trumpets, warm strings and notably, Siphokazi’s sweet choruses.
I’m not surprised to see JR in the collaboration; he’s probably the most innovative rapper on the scene at the moment (after HHP). He has the energy, the steadiness, the wit and most importantly, the voice. He first introduces the track and then takes the third verse, talking generally about a party scenario.
After JR’s verse, a trumpet melody jumps in briefly, readying Siphokazi for the final chorus, which takes slight transposition towards the end.
It’s a cool song; I wouldn’t mind adding it to my collection. Push play, you may have a different opinion..
