After researching analogue summing boxes for a while and looking through all of the analogue solutions available, as well as my budget, I've purchased this:

It has a built-in 18 channel TCDice Firewire soundcard, with 16 channels of Allen and Heath's best pre-amps and 4 band parametric British eq. Simply put, it sounds absolutely amazing. I redid 2 mixes this weekend on it and they sound incredible. I'm so happy with it! It also has built in midi control, to control my DAW and VST's. It's Allen and Heath's first recording console in 10 years, they'll also be releasing a 24 channel version soon.

It is so much of awesome! The preamps are great, clean and quiet, they remind me of the preamps on the Euphonix we had at CSR, lovely, considered A&H's best, and raved about on Gearslutz.com.

The eq's are sweet, the top and bottom shelves are very broad, enabling large adjustments while the 2 sweepable mids are awesome for fine tuning. Smooth as anything, you can add or take away as much as you like without it sounding harsh.

I'm coming out the box, 16 channels, mixing and eq'ing then summing ang recording back into the box, all at low latency over one FireWire cable (400). It sounds amazing, has totally transformed my mixes. They now sound like they should. The routing is very versatile, the noise is negligible and the sound is very, very smooth. It's actually become difficult to peak my monitors, I have to really wind the level to get them to peak. No more ear fatigue, my ears are thanking me every day.

I haven't used them on ribbons yet, sorry. Buy one, you won't be sorry!

when recording through the firewire does it give a stero recording or can you do muti track recordings straight to the computer without using a soundcard. I am interested in doing live recordings and this desk seemed to be the best at its price range.

You can multitrack up to 24 channels into the computer, the extra 8 from an ADAT source. This desk is perfect for live recording.
