OK.
I've spent the best of three nights setting up Cubase sx with my Evolution midi controller & Terratec phase 26 usb audio interface, now ready to learn the dark arts of sx. Damn, now I need some expert help. I'm having huge latency when working with midi . Anyone know a step by step how to overcome this problem ??? I really don't feel like struggling another 3 nights ! |

3 nights... wow that must have sucked.
I don't use Cubase but latency is generally controlled by the size of the I/O (thats In/Out) buffer on your audio driver..... In cubase there should be a preference panel where you setup your audio driver, look for a setting to do with I/O buffer size and set it to the smallest possible value. Please bare in mind that decreasing the value of the I/O buffer will also result in a performance hit as the computer has to dedicate more resources to performance related tasks, like playing back virtual instruments via midi. Hope this helps, z. |

On my Cubase/Audiotrak setup, the latency setting is in the sound card mixer menus...

Hey Negus...
goto Devices/Device setup....VST Multitrack and wallah there are you settings.... Preferrably you will want to go for Asio support so under the Asio Driver drop window choose the Asio driver for your card....you can leave the settings window and just go straight to the control panel button...click that and you will now be able to set your buffer settings... hope this helps.... |

Thanx a bunch gents !
Yeah Z, 3 nights really sucked, had to decipher the baby piece by piece. Using Reason 2 , but apparently the sound quality's much better with Cubase from what I've heard so I just had to check it out, and I needed a host for my VSTs. Gonna be quite a learning curve from what I checked from the sx interface. I'll keep u guys in the loop as to the latency issue. Cheers ! |

Howzit Guys
Thaxs alot, latency issue is fixed eventually. One more problem, how does one access a drum machine VST on SX , create a drum track, etc. Just a simple step by step would do. Oh yes, one more thing, can one run multiple midi tracks with the same VST, utilising different patches ?? Cheers |

OK - let me get a smidgin in before fly comes in and astounds us all with his verbosity!
QUOTE how does one access a drum machine VST on SX , create a drum track - Go to 'Window' or 'Tools' (not at my PC now, can't membah eggs actly - 2nd menu from the right). - Select 'VST Instruments' - Select an Instrument from the drop-down list in one of the slots presented - Add a MIDI track to your project. - Select the VST instrument as defined above in the output drop-down of the MIDI track - FIN This is quite well documented in the help files - why not have a read there? **my favourite first line in a manual: "Now you have finished trying your way of operating the xxxyyyzzz device, it's time to try our way..." Isn't that great?? sarcy or what?? QUOTE one more thing, can one run multiple midi tracks with the same VST, Yes QUOTE utilising different patches No, unless the tracks need different patches when not playing simultaneously, then a simple patch change (MIDI or VST) could get you what you looking for... Otherwise you'll need to run two instances of the same VSTi. |

QUOTE Oh yes, one more thing, can one run multiple midi tracks with the same VST, utilising different patches ?? Whats wierd is that you can do this in Samplitude, well with some VSTi's anyway.....thought it was a standard thing with Cubase until I checked... Another reason to stay with Sam I guess |

Some instruments can do it - like Sampletank and Xphrase. They can run combinations of patches on one channel or multiple patches spread over individual channels.
If the VSTi have multiple MIDI channel capability then yes, it can be done... And fly* - it's endearing old chap, endearing! |
